Engine Bay

The XC was fairly untidy under the hood ...

Lots of oil, etc. sprayed around from minor leaks.  Half-arsed brackets for throttle, choke, etc. And of course the Holley carb fitted to an adapter on the stock manifold.

The manifold was leaking in several places and I just don't like carb adapters.  Note the restrictive casting for the original Thermoquad carb just where the Holley primary butterflies are.

It's getting very difficult to source original Carter Thermoquads for these vehicles, and they often have warped or cracked plastic parts.  "Remanufactured" ones are available for $$$$ from the States, but the 600 Holley that came on this car is fairly new, so can be made to work.

A new Edelbrock Performer aluminium manifold designed for the Holley, with ARP stainless fasteners should help, eh?

Carb, distributor and other fittings removed before lifting the manifold off.  Are they getting heavier, or am I getting older?  Either way, I considered using the engine hoist coz it didn't want to move.

Cleanliness is essential to avoid leaks.  This includes chasing all threads with a good quality tap to ensure clamping forces are maintained.

Edelbrock in place - looking heaps better already.

And the carb fitted with new cable brackets made and fuel line tidied up. (Below)
